From Local 3 News: Chicago-based IB Parks & Entertainment announced on Friday, January 9 it has acquired the rights to operate Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park.
The move is being called a "long-term commitment," and begins with the 2026 season, according to a release from the family-oriented theme parks and attractions operator. The founding family still owns the park.
Lake Winnie re-opens on Friday, May 1.
CEO Gene Staples said they will provide additional resources and support to the treasured family destination while maintaining the experiences guests have come to know and love.
"Lake Winnie is a place that holds deep meaning for generations of families," said Staples. "Our role is to operate the park with respect for its history, its people, and its community. Guests can expect the same familiar experiences, the same character, and the same commitment to family fun that has defined Lake Winnie for generations."
The transition in operations will not impact guests or season passholders, and there will be no changes to benefits, pricing, or perks, the new operator says.
Tennyson Dickinson, Director of Lake Winnie and great-granddaughter of founders Carl and Minette Dixon, says that for over 100 years, Lake Winnie has welcomed families and helped them create lasting memories.
"I want to thank everyone who has ever walked through the gates, and be assured, the family memories will continue for years to come."
The 2026 season will also coincide with the 110th anniversary of Lake Winnie's Antique Carousel.
Inspection reports obtained by Local 3 News in 2023 showed that the Rossville amusement park had 8 safety violations between 2020-2023.
We filed for those reports after a 5-year-old boy's hospitalization when he fell around 20 feet from a water slide.
A year later in July 2024, a 16-year-old employee was injured on the "Wave Swinger" while trying to latch a seat and secure it. Before she could get off the ride, it started, and she was tossed.
The state of Georgia inspects the park and similar venues annually, and all violations found are required to be corrected before operations resumes.
