Cleveland City School Board Meeting 10-14-24

Oct 14, 2024

The Cleveland City School Board met last night…

Several announcements were made during the Director’s Update:

The board will have its fall retreat on October 29th.

Schools will be closed on November 4th from noon to 7 PM for Parent/ Teacher Conferences and closed the entire day on November 5th for students only for Election Day. Staff will report for a development day.

Hal Taylor, Director of Operations, was the recipient of the Tennessee Environmental Health Educator Award.

The board also discussed going through the process of developing a 5-year plan and the timeline. The board hopes to have the plan by March 2025.

Members of the community and staff will have a voice through community meetings so that the board can hear different perspectives during the planning process.

The board also discussed school safety after several surrounding school systems have seen an increase in threats. Per state law, each school system must establish a threat assessment team. The Cleveland City School board selected 8 individuals systemwide. The team will meet on an as-needed basis and will provide a streamlined process for gathering information about a student or threat and taking action.

An update was given on the expansion project at Candy’s Creek Cherokee Elementary School. The project is expected to be completed in February 2025.
