Cleveland City Council Voting Session 08-26-24

The Cleveland City Council met yesterday…


Chris Bates discussed the newest addition to the city fire truck fleet.  The new 100ft fire truck was recently delivered.  The truck was a $1.6 Million investment by the City. The truck is replacing a vehicle in the fleet that was 23 years old.


Council members and Mayor Kevin Brooks thanked Vice Mayor Avery Johnson and Councilman Dale R. Hughes for their service to the community. Both men will be leaving office on August 31st and were given honorary gavels and street signs will be erected at 1st and Church Street and 2nd and Church Street. The street name changes will be in effect for one month.

The Council also amended the Cleveland Municipal Code’s MS4 Phase II Stormwater Management Program to meet current TDEC permit requirements. 


The Council passed Zoning Ordinances to rezone about 9 acres on Benton Pike to a planned unit development and also rezoned land on Minnis Road to add 20 townhome units to the development


City Manager Fivas showcased a digitally animated flyover of the future downtown Cleveland and Whirlpool properties, which includes a roundabout and bridge over the railway. The Council also approved a resolution recommending the adoption of the Municipal Urban Growth Boundary amendment proposal. This amendment will also be considered as the Bradley County Growth Boundary Coordinating Committee starts work on planning for the county.


The next City Council meeting will be held on Monday, September 9th at the  Museum Center at Five Points.
