From News Channel 9: US Senator Marsha Blackburn from Tennessee is weighing in on a report over the weekend about possible American casualties if military action is taken in Iran.
Tensions have escalated in recent weeks between Washington and Tehran.
The Trump administration maintains that Iran should not have access to nuclear weapons.
Iran claims its nuclear program only engages in academic research.
During this time, the Trump administration has been building up its military presence in the Middle East.
US Senator Marsha Blackburn spoke about Iran on Mix 104.1 Tuesday morning.
The senator was asked about reports over the weekend that the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, said privately, that we "risk American casualties."
She advised listeners not to give in to speculation and give the Trump administration time.
"People are going to try to presume what can and cannot happen. I think what we have to look at is the President has told Iran to come to the table, to work with them. They've got time to to work with them. We have to realize Iran is the largest state sponsor of terrorism, whether it's Hamas or Hezbollah or any of the other splinter terrorist groups, and making certain that they stop this will make the world and the US a safer place," Blackburn says.
The United States and Iran are expected to hold the next round of nuclear talks on Thursday in Geneva, according to Oman’s foreign minister, Badir al-Busaidi, who is facilitating the negotiations.
The Trump administration has not commented publicly on the planned meeting, even as it increases its military presence in the region in an effort to pressure Tehran into concessions.
The broader strain in U.S. regional relations was underscored Sunday by remarks from U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, who said Israel has a right to much of the Middle East — comments that drew sharp objections from Arab and Muslim countries and further inflamed tensions.
