Bradley County Commission meeting recap

The Bradley County Commission met yesterday.

In committee updates, Commissioner Tim Mason announced that the Road Committee meeting originally scheduled for this week has been postponed to January.

Commissioner Denny Collins said the Legal and Legislative Committee will meet today, December 2nd at 11:30 a.m.

Commissioner Milan Blake reported that the Finance Committee met earlier in the day and made adjustments to the HCI Committee’s funding recommendations. Blake introduced a motion to approve the recommendations, but Commissioner Rogers proposed a substitute motion to increase funding for the City Fields Community Garden from $11,900 to $25,000. After discussion, the substitute motion passed unanimously.

The Finance Committee also recommended using $273,000 from Fund 192 to help pay off a 20-year-old library loan in a 50/50 deal with the City of Cleveland. That motion also passed 13-0.

The agenda included three resolutions, all passing with unanimous support.

Commissioner Tim Mason introduced a resolution authorizing a utility easement across two county properties. The resolution was revised to be contingent on meeting legal requirements related to an existing landfill agreement with Republic Services. After extended discussion, the commission approved a substitute motion to bring back an update on December 15 if Republic has not signed the necessary documents.

Commissioner Josh Rogers introduced a resolution allowing the county mayor to enter a three-year agreement with Cintas Corporation for janitorial and cleaning supplies for EMS. That resolution passed without objection.

Commissioner Mike  Hughes presented a resolution approving Bullins Environmental Solutions LLC to build a new solid waste processing facility in Charleston, under the Jackson Law. That motion also passed unanimously.
