Christmas arrives in Cleveland as Foundation House Ministries organizes Festival of Trees

From Local 3 News: While some continue searching for the perfect Halloween costume, others in Cleveland are already decorating for Christmas. Preparations for the 5th Annual Festival of Trees organized by Foundation House Ministries are underway.

Founded in 2014, the non-profit offers housing and a recovery program for mothers. It's the only maternity home of its kind within a 150-mile radius.
 
"We like to think of it as the kickoff to Cleveland's Christmas season, so everybody is excited," said Jennifer Riojas, the organization's community engagement coordinator. "It's a way to give back to the mamas and the babies."

Caterer Amy Hunt provided dinner for the first-ever gala in 2021. Now, she's involved far beyond the kitchen.

"The more I found out about the organization and what they do, it just became very dear to my heart," said Hunt, creator of Catering by Amy. "I'm a grandmother, so babies and kids are very important to me... (It's great) to see the mothers come from a very rough time in their life, and all the sudden, be able to get jobs, be able to care for their children and actually make a fresh start into a new life, if you will."
 
Foundation House has served roughly 1,200 women in some capacity since its founding. 
Riojas said she wished she had an organization like Foundation House when she became a mom.

"This is my hometown, and I was a teen mom, so I wish Foundation House ministries had been here for me 27 years ago when my baby was born," Riojas said.
 
Along with decorating and donating a tree, people wanting to get involved can also donate furniture, art and other items for both live and silent auctions.

The gala is Nov. 13 from 6 to 8pm at the Old Woolen Mill and will include a traditional Christmas dinner made by Hunt. You can find more details, including how to purchase tickets, here.
