Multiple children found among dozens of neglected animals at Grundy Co. home

From Local 3 News: UPDATE: The Grundy County Sheriff's Office says dozens of pets weren't the only living things found inside a home at the center of an animal neglect investigation.

The GCSO confirmed on Monday, eight kids were also found inside a home along with dozens of animals.

The children are ages one to 17.

The GCSO said the animals that were found included at least 40dogs, one pig, and several cats.

Two people were taken into custody over the weekend.

Their names and charges have not been released.

PREVIOUS STORY: they had an "overwhelming response" from all over the tri-state area while working to rescue dozens of animals from neglect.

All but six of the animals were given homes or placed in foster care. The six remaining animals couldn't be caught on Saturday. Crews are continuing to gather resources to capture them.

The sheriff's office said that unfortunately some of the animals died overnight and into the day due to the severity of their conditions.

The following shelters and agencies, alongside many others assisted in the recovery effort:

Easy's Dog Shelter
Ruff Rescue
Marion Animal Resource Connection
Coffee County Humane Society
Nashville Humane Society
Signal Mountain Veterinarian Clinic
Scottsboro Parkview Animal Wellness
Beersheba Springs Fire Department
Altamont Fire Department
TEMA

According to Dr. Michelle Shelton with Parkview Animal Wellness, one of the puppies from a smaller group tested positive for Parvo. They are asking those who adopted to keep an eye on whether their dog experiences vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, and lethargy.

We are working to learn more about the residents facing charges.

PREVIOUS STORY: Deputies with the Grundy County Sheriff's Office found over 40 animals, including dogs, pigs, and cats, at a home this week following a neglect investigation.

Two people are now in custody, and the owner agreed to surrender all animals on the property, according to a Facebook post from the sheriff's office. They did not identify those facing charges.

Pictures posted online show multiple dogs in varying conditions chained up or left in cages outside.

Detectives have been working in conjunction with local shelters and rescues to seize and take care of the animals.

The sheriff's office says even more dogs arrived
