From Local 3 News: Budget air carrier Spirit Airlines has launched their new flights to three popular destinations on the east coast from Chattanooga.
On Wednesday, June 4, non-stop flights to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Orlando International Airport (MCO) begin, followed by a third route to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) that starts Thursday, June 5.
The new flights mark the first new carrier to add service to and from the Chattanooga Airport since 2016.
It will operate up to four times weekly for Newark and Orlando, and three times weekly for Fort Lauderdale.
April Cameron, President and CEO of the Chattanooga Airport, said these new nonstop routes will enable Chattanooga's role as a gateway to the Southeast.
"We appreciate Spirit’s investment in our community and look forward to welcoming travelers from across these key destinations to the Scenic City," Cameron stated.
"People want to fly local, and Spirit’s new nonstop services create new opportunities for them and our businesses," Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly said. "I often say air service development is economic development and this is another great example."
Senior VP of Corporate Communications at Spirit Airlines, Duncan Dee, says Chattanooga is a beautiful city and the inaugural service will make it easier for travelers heading in and out.
"Thank you to Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport for their partnership, and we look forward to introducing high-value travel for Chattanoogans to visit major East Coast cities with world-class attractions and beautiful beaches."
