From Local 3 News: UPDATE: The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has named the suspect killed in an officer-involved shooting on Hamilton Place Boulevard.
21-year-old Alricko Trimble Jr. has been identified as the driver.
This is a developing story.
PREVIOUS: Chattanooga police spotted a person "acting in a suspicious manner" about 5:30pm Friday in the 2100 block of Hamilton Place Boulevard, and attempted to stop the vehicle.
The driver and two other passengers in the vehicle fled police at a high rate of speed. Officers deemed to vehicle was driven in a "dangerous and felonious manner" and presented a risk to the public.
The driver rammed several vehicles during the escape attempt, and struck one CPD officer.
That's when police fire at the suspect, striking him. The 21-year-old driver died from his injuries at the scene, according to Chattanooga police.
One passenger was taken to a local hospital by Hamilton County EMS was later been released. The other passenger was detained by officers for questioning. No other people, including CPD officers, requested medical treatment at the scene.
As per Chattanooga Police Department policy, both officers involved have been placed on administrative leave. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will be handling the criminal investigation.
Chattanooga police ask anyone with information about this incident to call 423-698-2525.
