Cleveland City Council meeting recap

The Cleveland City Council met yesterday.

City manager Joe Fivas announced the Grand Opening of Johnston Park on May 12th at 11:30 a.m.

Fivas also announced that City departments are working on budgets. He said at this time, there are more needs than revenue in the current budget draft and the budget will need to be adjusted. The Council will have a proposed budget to review in mid to late May.

Fivas also discussed the progress and timelines for various construction projects, including the Firestone building, expected to be completed by August 2025. The City is also expected to be able to move into the Cherokee Hotel building in March of 2026. 

Fivas told the council that the pickleball courts at Tinsley Park will be done later this spring. The softball pavilion is expected to be completed in the fall.

The council discussed a $70,000 change order for a J-turn on 25th Street and a $1.4 million temporary easement reduction for the Georgetown project. 

Several Rezoning requests were reviewed, including a request to zone about 36 acres, for property located on APD-40  from a Heavy Industrial Zoning District to a PUD 60 district. The motion passed 5-1. 

The council also discussed setting a baseline lot size of 46 feet for new developments, emphasizing flexibility and fairness in the development process.

Some Council members expressed concerns about setting a policy for mixed-use developments and emphasized the importance of flexibility and not setting a rigid policy.

The next City Council meeting will be held on Monday, March 24th.
