The Bradley County Commission met yesterday.
County Mayor Gary Davis gave a report to Commissioners. The Mayor is working to get ARP funds ready for end-of-year reporting. Davis also proposed several contractual amendments where amounts have changed or moved to other items within the budget. The amendments passed 14-0.
The Commission filled the 7th District Bradley County Board of Education vacancy. The vacancy occurred after the resignation of Jeff Lovingood. Three citizens applied for the position. Candidates, Mickey Clark, Peggy Hathcock, and Alan Smith were all given the opportunity to speak. 7th District Commissioner Bill Winters nominated Alan Smith. The Commission unanimously appointed Smith. Smith will face reelection in 2026. After the vote, County Mayor D. Gary Davis administered the Oath of Office.
The Opioid Abatement Funds grants were announced and a motion was made by 3rd District Commissioner, Milan Blake to approve the grants. ATS the Bridge was awarded $60,000, the Boys and Girls Club received $31,000, Bradley Prevention Coalition $31,750, Foundation House Ministries $25,750, and the Caring Place $51,500. The motion passed 14-0
Commissioner Blake also proposed a resolution requesting the Tennessee General Assembly to allocate one-half of the real estate transfer tax to the county where the tax was collected on a recurring basis. If passed, the county would use the funds for Education Capital Projects.
The Commission will next meet on Monday, January 6th, at 7 pm.
