From Local 3 News: UPDATE: The Selmer Police Department is mourning the loss of Officer Rick Finley, who was attacked and killed in a shooting on Saturday, December 14 around 3:00pm.
After hearing reports of a suspicious man in the 100 block of New Bethel Road, Finley found the suspect in the driveway of a home. Daniel Holmes, 39, had tried to force his way into a home and then fired several shots at the door. He then fled to the other side of the street.
When Finley confronted the suspect, Holmes physically attacked him, shooting him several times.
A Lieutenant arrived on scene and shot Holmes, killing him.
The Selmer Police Department asks the public for thoughts and prayers while TBI finishes their investigation.
Selmer police say that Finley worked with their department part-time, and was employed full-time with the McNairy County Sheriff's Office.
TBI sent their condolences to the department in a Facebook post:
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Finley's family and friends and our law enforcement partners family at the Selmer Police Department and McNairy County Sheriff's Office."
