TN Senator arrested for DUI, hit-and-run while vacationing in GA

From Local 3 News: Tennessee State Senator Ken Yager (R-Dist. 12) was arrested on Tuesday, December 3 while vacationing in Georgia.

The Glynn County Sheriff's Office tells our NBC affiliates in Nashville that Sen. Yager, 77, was booked into the Glynn County Detention Center for charges of:

• DUI
• Hit-and-run
• Failure to stop at a stop sign

WSMV reports around 5:00pm on Tuesday, Georgia State Troopers started to look for a Ford Edge with a Tennessee license plate that had been involved in a hit-and-run on Jekyll Island.

Police say that when they found the car, EMS was already there, treating a man who had tripped and fallen. He was later identified as Senator Ken Yager.

According to Georgia State Troopers, Yager allegedly admitted that he had been involved in an accident earlier in the evening when troopers smelled alcohol on his breath.

“Mr. Yager agreed to perform a Field Sobriety Test and submit to a breathalyzer,” the Georgia Department of Public Safety said. “As a result, Mr. Yager was arrested and charged with DUI and Hit-and-Run. He was transported to the Glynn County Jail.”

Yager posted bond for all of the charges and was released on Wednesday, December 4. He released the following statement:

“An unfortunate incident happened last night,” Yager admitted. “On the advice of my attorney, I cannot discuss the particulars at this time. I am and will continue to cooperate fully with authorities to bring this incident to an appropriate conclusion.”

Yager's Tennessee Congressional district comprises of Campbell, Clay, Fentress, Macon, Morgan, Overton, Pickett, Roane and Scott Counties.
