From Local 3 News: UPDATE: The plane was a Cessna Skyhawk that flew 17 miles and 11 minutes before the crash, according to its trail number: N951JA. It had a planned distance of 20 miles, FlightAware records show.
CFD believes the crash was caused by engine failure.
This crash is now under investigation by the FAA.
Crystal Air, Inc. released the following statement: "A Crystal Air, Inc Cessna 172 was involved in an accident this evening. The pilot and instructor were both able to walk away, and were taken to a local hospital for evaluation. We are cooperating with the local and federal officials in this matter. We appreciate your prayers during this time."

The Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) says the single-engine plane was carrying two people who are "very lucky to be alive."
Reportedly, the engine went out and the plane went down about 1/2 mile from Chattanooga Airport's nearby runway, CFD says. A small fuel leak was stopped.
As a result, there is an emergency closure of Shallowford Road between Airport Road and Cromwell Road until noon on Wednesday, November, 20, city officials say. Tunnel Blvd, Brainerd Road/Lee Hwy, and Hwy 153 are the recommended detours.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is heading to the scene, CFD says.
