Cleveland City Council meeting recap

The Cleveland City Council met yesterday.

Election Administrator, Fran Green spoke to the Council about the City School Board vacancy in the Second District. No one qualified to be on the ballot for the position. One candidate did qualify to be a write-in candidate but failed to receive enough votes to occupy the position according to state law. The Council voted to appoint current school board member Krista McKay to continue serving on the school board. McKay had announced she was not seeking another term. Her current term expires on August 31st, but she will now continue her term until someone is elected to the position.

City manager Joe Fivas announced the
3rd Street Corridor Community Meeting which will take place August 19 from 5-7 p.m. at the Old Woolen Mill in the Weavers Room. The meeting will include design plans for a “Downtown Arts & Entertainment District Initiative.” The project will include a network that will connect Blythe Oldfield to College Hill and will create a new boulevard to connect to 3rd Street.

The design will be released to the public next Monday at the meeting.

The Cleveland Lions Club presented the Melvin Jones Fellow Award to retiring Vice Mayor Avery Johnson for his contributions to the community.

The next City Council meeting will be held on Monday, August 26th at 1:30 p.m.
