Suspect in Ooltewah manhunt dead after house fire

From Local 3 News: UPDATE: A standoff has ended Tuesday night after the suspect in an Ooltewah manhunt died after a house fire near Rising Fawn Place, HCSO says.

Deputies received a call about an individual firing a weapon at the home Tuesday afternoon.

Upon arrival, the suspect went inside the residence and came back out to shoot at deputies. As a result, several deputies shot back. Police believe the suspect was struck based on the blood that was seen on the porch of the home.

Gas was deployed to extract the suspect, but it was not successful. Around 7:00pm, the home caught on fire, officials say. Two dogs were rescued from the home.

HCSO says the suspect had plenty of opportunities to come out of the house.

Although the identity of the suspect has not been released yet, the following warrants were obtained:
  • 3 counts of attempted first-degree murder
  • 3 counts of aggravated assaults
  • 1 count of reckless endangerment

TBI will conduct an investigation.

Local 3 is working to learn more information.

The spokesperson says the suspect apparently fired at deputies shortly before 3:30pm.
